The black illustration board was a good choice. This is a formal portrait, in keeping with the original series' take on the subject of Barnabas. The facet in his garnet, or ruby, pendant is perfect, and mirrors the mixed reds and blacks of the ascot; the metalwork on the chain is quite detailed, giving it a pewter finish and texture. I prefer to think of it as tarnished silver. The hair and clothing are also finely nuanced.

There is just the right amount of shadowing around the eyes without making him appear garish. The shading of cheekbones, nose, and mouth are also subtly done. Although Mr. Depp's face is somewhat broader, there is a remarkable resemblance to the regal expressions Mr. Frid would often acquire, especially about the eyes and arched brows. The kewpie-doll lips are strictly Depp's but add an interesting effect, nonetheless.

What a striking portrait!

Wow, thank you so much! :D

I'm so glad my piece was able to reflect a lot of my intentions, as well as the familiarity of the subject. I am a fan of the original series, as well as of Depp/Burton, so I worked hard to make sure both incarnations of Barnabus were there. :)

Thank you again!
